My family has two of their meals, lunch and dinner, with rice. We don’t all eat in unision, so we need a rice cooker that will keep the rice fresh for as long as we keep the plug in. The latest one we bought keeps it warm up to 12 hours, like most rice cookers, and releases water when we turn it off. Is there a rice cooker that won’t do that?

Zojirushi rice cookers are known as one of the best, if not the best, brands out there. They are expensive, but worth it. I am not sure what you mean about releasing water so I can’t answer that part of your question, but you could use their rice cookers multiple times a day every day for 20 years and not have an issue. Your last pot of rice would be exactly like your first. They are amazingly consistent.
I have one of their fuzzy logic kinds. I love it because I can set it up before I leave for work and instead of setting a time for it to turn on you set the time you want it to finish cooking. I can tell it I want my rice ready at 6:30 and then at 6:30 the thing sings its little finish song and I am ready to eat.

How to Clean a Rice Cooker
There can be quite a few components when it comes to your style of rice cooker. Some are very simple and only have a bowl and a lid, while others have a few more fiddly bits involved. The following is the best way to go about cleaning your rice cooker without doing any damage and possibly voiding your warranty.
• Firstly always disconnect your cooker from the electricity supply. It is wise to wait until it cools down before cleaning. You will need to empty all contents from the inner bowl.
• Next, soak the bowl in hot soapy water. Rinse the bowl and either leave to drain or dry it with a cloth. Make sure you soak all utensils used, like the measuring cup and the spatula with hot soapy water, as if they are left to dry it will make cleaning difficult.
• The lid often becomes very messy from the starch in the rice and needs to be soaked also. It is not always easy to remove all residue from the lid, so soaking it for 5 to 10 minutes will ensure it is removed adequately.
• Leave the main bowl and all other equipment to dry before storing it away.
• The exterior of the rice cooker should be wiped over with a damp sponge or cloth to remove stains or dribbles during the cooking process.
• Never use anything harsh or abrasive whilst cleaning your rice cooker. You could possibly end up scratching the Teflon coating, or stainless steel bowl. This will no doubt result in rice becoming stuck to the bowl in future when you use your cooker.
Mostly care of your rice cooker is not difficult and just takes thought. Never immerse the main body of your cooker into water, especially if it is still connected to the power supply. This only needs a gentle wipe down to remove any residue from cooking.
If you take the time to care for your rice cooker, it will give you many years of use without any problems of rice or other foods sticking to the bowl. Always clean your rice cooker immediately after it has cooled down as leaving it will make cleaning much more difficult.
Dried rice is no fun to try and scrape off, and this is often when damage is done. Happy cooking!

Well, I do love inarizushi the most – but when I try and make it, my sushi rice always goes all gluggy and horrible. I was at the Japan Centre food shop, stocking up on udon noodles and some more shoyu, when I saw some proper rice cookers.
They’re expensive, but if I had one, I’d be able to make lots more of my favourite snack without worrying about messing up the rice, right? So, do you think they’re worth the money?

My roomate Veara from Cambodia has a rice cooker and its the greatest. Every college student should have a Forman grill and a rice cooker, hands down. We have had ours for 2 years now and we use it almost daily. It still works and makes tasty sticky rice with minimal effort.
1 put the rice in, 2 put in some water, 3 hit a button and come back when it smells good 8 ). YUMMY.

uhhh, I just use a pot with a lid…. Works well for both brown and white rice.
